As a Software Programming Instructor at Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), based in Accra, Ghana, you will join a team of individuals working to develop and train African software entrepreneurs. You will enjoy the excitement of being a key contributor in establishing the institute and will be a critical force in developing Africa's technology generation.

MEST is a not-for-profit NGO funded by Meltwater Group. Based in an area of the world carefully chosen for maximum impact, MEST's mission is to train and develop young African entrepreneurs to become future players in the global information technology industry.

MEST is a post-graduate program for a select group of some of Africa's highest potential students, all with undergraduate degrees and a passion for technology and entrepreneurialism.

The end goal is to equip these students with the tools and confidence to start new software companies and generate wealth locally.

Qualification Requirements

Five or more years of software programming experience in web development using recent technologies, and solid knowledge of object oriented design and programming.
Programming proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Java, C++, C#, PHP.
Experience with relational databases/SQL, Open-Source software projects and web architecture.
Broad knowledge of SDLC.
Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
Compassion and empathy necessary to transcend cultural differences.
Collaborative approach and willingness to be a "team player."

Desirable qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science or closely related field would be ideal; a master's or PhD is a plus)
Experience in an entrepreneurial start-up or in launching a new product.
Experience with mobile technologies.
Previous teaching experience at the college level or corporate training experience.
Experience in shipping commercial software
The ability to commit to a two-year contract in Accra, Ghana.
Charismatic presence, sense of humor and the ability to foster a fun environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

Developing technology curriculum that includes current trends and best practices in software development (e.g. open-source software movement, service-oriented architecture, etc.) with Senior Faculty.
Creating and delivering lecture material.
Being innovative in teaching software development in order to encourage independent thinking, using interactive methods rather than strict textbook style.
Communicating and collaborating effectively with teaching assistants, who may assist in delivering lab and lecture material.
Acting as a positive role model and mentor to entrepreneurs-in-training and teaching assistants.
Motivating and inspiring small teams of entrepreneurs-in-training in completing software development projects by creating a positive and dynamic learning environment.
Creating requirements for project deliverables, analyzing project deliverables, and giving constructive feedback.
